Reference Online Choreography Course – starting 25th August 2020
We have been a long time in lockdown (longer for those of us who dance) and it is still unclear as to when normal service will be resumed. Melissa and I are always looking for ways to provide more service to the dance community and challenge those we have the privilege to teach to become better dancers. We have thoroughly enjoyed delivering our online classes and thanks to your support will continue to do so. It is time for the next stage of our online development.
The reason for this communication is that we would like to increase our offering and start an online choreography/performance course. Now, before you get too worried the performance element is ‘optional’ and you can participate by just doing the choreography element without committing to perform or you can also opt to perform if there is enough interest in that side of things. If it is your decision not to perform you will still learn a lot from doing the choreography element of the course.
This is the first time that we have planned anything like this but we think it could be a lot of fun, a great learning experience and present the opportunity to learn choreography to a specific piece of music. Melissa and I have been running performance courses for over 10 years now and it will be an exciting challenge to bring our collective experience to an online format.
Type of Choreography
This choreography will obviously be solo based rather than partnerwork because of the current situation but it will also present an opportunity to develop unique areas in you as a dancer and improve your dance skills. This choreography course will be musically driven which means that we will not necessarily be dancing On1 or On2 but our movement and expression will be dictated by the song that we will dance to. There will be elements of:
- Mambo footwork
- Afro Cuban movement
- Latin Jazz movement
- Body movement and styling
- Musical ear training
- Understanding music structure
