MONDAY AND THURSDAY KIZOMBA CLASSES (St Albans and Maidenhead) - OTHER WEEKLY CLASSES

Link to Beginners classes for Kizomba

New 4 week courses start on the 28th September (Maidenhead) and the 9th october (St Albans) 2017

Dance2salsa are proud to present our weekly Kizomba classes run by our Dance2Kizomba team.

Kizomba is a partner dance native to the African country of Angola, with influences from other Lusofone countries. It was first known as "Passada" (meaning "stepping" - a reference to the movement flow) and for having a sensuous rhythm.

Although the exact origins are unknown, it is considered to be a fusion of Semba (a traditional Angolan dance and predecessor of samba) with 'Zouk' influences coming from the French Caribbean Islands.

In the 80's groups like Kassav or Zouk Machine infused a fast paced and more African influenced sound into the music. In recent times the style has become slightly slower and more romantic and the influence of other dance styles like Tango are clearly visible.

Kizomba style now emphasizes a very smooth way of dancing, heavily influened by Tango steps, one of the main differences being that the lower body, the hip, does forward/backwards and circle movements.

People dance on the tempo, as well as playing on the off beat and only sometimes using syncopated steps. Repetitive steps and patterns provide a clear platform for teaching this dance form in a skilled manner.

As with all of our nights we aim to deliver an educational experience in a fantastic social environment. At the heart of this experience is our Dance2Kizomba syllabus which is progressive, unique and well researched. Our structured courses will help you to progress your Kizomba in the best way possible.

Kizomba Beginners Course
The Dance2Kizomba BEGINNERS Course is 6 weeks in duration and is structured to provide a solid technical grounding. The course will cover Music Styles (Kizomba, Semba, Tarraxhina and Ghetto Zouk), Leading and Following Techniques (establishing a Connection, the Hold and Frame), Movement and Basic Steps (First Basic, Second Basic, Half Time, Side Step) and Step Patterns (Women's Saida, Men's Saida, Virgula).

All you need for this course is a little enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We suggest that you undertake this course at least twice.

Please consult your instructor at the end of the course to determine if you are ready to move up to the next level.

Kizomba Improvers Course
The Dance2Kizomba IMPROVERS Course is 8 weeks in duration. The prerequisite for the course is completion of Kizomba Beginners Course or equivalent relevant experience. Students can be assessed independently if required.

The course is structured to build on the fundamentals learned in the Beginners Course. The course will re-emphasise Leading and Following Techniques (types of Hold, use of Tension, changing timing and Intent) and introduce Styling (Disassociation, Body Movement, Circular Patterns) and linked Step Patterns (variations of Women's and Men's Saidas, Estrella, direction changes).

We suggest that you undertake this course at least twice. Please consult your instructor at the end of the course to determine if you are ready to move up to the next level.

Kizomba Intermediate Course
The Dance2Kizomba INTERMEDIATE LEVEL builds on the Improver course to develop you as proficient and technically capable Kizomba dancer. At this level emphasis is given to styling and musical interpretation in addition to extending your dance vocabulary. The prerequisite for entry to the Intermediate Level is assessed completion of the Kizomba Improver Course or an evaluation by a member of the Dance2Kizomba Teaching Team.
